F1-insider tweets about the 2012 Sky sport F1 deal

Aug
9

Thanks to the Social Medium Twitter there’s a collection of opinions from F1 Insiders available. Here’s a couple of them:

Martin Brundle (MBrundleF1):

BBC/Sky/F1 2012+. Found out last night, no idea how it will work yet I’m out of contract, will calmly work through options Not impressed

Jake Humphrey (jakehumphreyf1):

Feels like the right time to say how proud I am of the whole BBC F1 production team & the programmes we’ve produced for you guys since ’09.

The important thing is – BBC are still transmitting F1, every race will be accessible in the UK…AND WE’RE LIVE TOMORROW! #bbcf1

Touching messages of support on Twitter. Keeping some perspective tho, F1 remains on the BBC, and after news of 1 week ago, it’s only sport.

Sir Stirling Moss (StirlingMossCom):

in the current economic climate even the most ardent fan would think twice because of the cost implications

#F1 has won many new fans because of the #BBCF1 coverage the last few years, the new deal will loose those not prepared to pay

The coverage will be like going into a restuarant having the starter & then being told you can only have half your main and no desert

As for Sky I would also question the long term effect of the judical enquiry, I would not want to pay Sky to see the rest of the season

For #F1 & more importantly the UK fans I can NOT see this being good over the long term, the casual TV viewing wil drop off significantly

TV viewing figures will fall away and I would question whether sponsors will achieve real value for the UK market

Mark Blundell (markblundellF1):

I understand anger at cost I really do, and in a way same as footy fans having to pay for premier league matches on sky an ESPN a while back

it’s de ja vu in a way as I and others lost jobs in channel prev to BBC with F1 but at least half races still live on BBC better than none:)

Tony Fernandes (tonyfernandes):

Martin Whitmarsh has said it may breach the Concorde agreement…

I’m as confused as all on sky deal. Just saw on my twitter the unhappiness.

Oliver Jarvis (ollyjarvis):

Dissapointed with the Sky F1 news! Although I think Sky will do a great job F1 should be available to all!

Was Murdoch behind the fall of Max Mosley after all? 2012 Sky Sports deal Makes sense now.

This is a developing story. With help of an anonymus source we came to know some very disturbing rumours about the involvement of special teams, payed by the Rupert Murdoch empire, to create a gigantic downfall of the mega powerfull Max Mosley.

We all know what happened, it was all over NOTW (News of The World) owned by Murdoch. The latest scandals of course are very very bad, and ended the tabloid and took the man itself into court.

Is this criminal Rupert Murdoch allowed to make F1 a payed sport? Isn’t that AGAINST EU-Law? And also against the many million making dollar deals what the F1 teams have made with they’re sponsors? Of course it all is!

The tactics this man uses to gain control over whatever-whoever are incredible, but it seems to work. This deal never was possible with Max Mosley still behind the wheels of what he did. With Max gone, Bernie was on a roll and sold out F1, whatever way you look at it. From a free to air sport, to a 600 pound a year fun-on-Sunday thing… hmmm.

That is BAD. It’s against EU-Law. It’s against the Spirit of the Sport. AND not really what the deals of the sponsors of the teams where based upon.

With all the world wide sickening scandals this man and it’s Empire are involved in, buying up half of F1 and put it behind a pay wall should bring a bright spot in it’s doings…. But is it?

Very funny link here from the Sky news website:

“Dear Mr Murdoch you’re really the pits. Bad news is good business, you’re the king of the tits.”

Dear Mr. Murdoch, what have you done
With your news of the screws and your soaraway sun?
You sharpen our hatred
You’ve blunted our minds
We’re drowning in nipples and bingo and sex crimes
How many time must they poke and they pry
Must they twist and lie?
Just to add to the grime they even screwed up the times
Love to kick their arse goodbye oh wouldn’t i!

Dear Mr. Murdoch you play hard to see
But with your bare-arsed cheek you should be on page three
And dear Mr. Murdoch you’re really the pits
Bad news is good business, you’re the king of the tits

They stain all they touch, they’re real woman haters
But we’re on their trail
They go straight for the lowest common denominators
How could they fail? go straight to jail – (no bail)!

Dear Mr. Murdoch you’re a powerful man
You control half our media whose values don’t scan
And dear Mr. Murdoch we’re not so amused
Just line up the people whose lives they’ve abused

Dear Mr. Murdoch what do you know
With your minions like vultures and carrion crow
They’ve sunk just as low as humans can sink
For profit they tell us how mass murderers think

And dear Mr. Murdoch you come down from on high
You even bought up the air waves, you control all our sky

Dear Mr. Murdoch you’re a dangerous chap
With your jingoist lingo we’re drowning in crap

Dear Mr. Murdoch where are you coming from?
Getting so hard to tell if you’re a yank, oz or pom

Dear Mr. Murdoch you’re really the pits
Bad news is good business, you’re the king of the tits

Dear Mr. Murdoch you do it with zing
At lowering the standards you’re really the king

And dear Mr. Murdoch what have you done?
You’re not quite as nice as attila the hun

BBC, Sky and Ecclestone WATCH OUT… “Sky F1 deal is against EU spirit” says Hugh Kerr (MEP 1994-99)

Aug
7

The BBC is coming to the rescue of the Murdoch empire’s biggest money-maker, Sky, to share Formula One (“BSkyB returns £750m to investors as F1 deal struck”, The Herald, July 30).

This can only boost Sky profits and will increase the threat to the BBC since Sky and James Murdoch are the biggest critics of the BBC. This will deny the vast majority of UK F1 fans who refuse to enrich the Murdoch empire the right to watch F1.

When I was an MEP I helped to put through a European Directive Television Without Frontiers which was meant to protect major sporting events being bought up by satellite and cable TV.  It is clear to me that this latest deal breaches the spirit of that directive, although the Coalition Government could prevent this by designating F1 as a free-to-air sport. I am not holding my breath.

Hugh Kerr (MEP 1994-99),

23 Braehead Avenue, Edinburgh.
